Pregnancy. The most wild and wonderful journey you are likely to embark upon. One that is exciting, tender and brimming with love and yet full of unknowns and uncertainties. These factors are what makes every pregnancy so unique and it's why I love to document the first chapter of a motherhood story.
On this chilly January morning it fills me with such joy to revisit this in-home lifestyle maternity photoshoot from last year. I was invited into this first-time mum's Bristol home back in the summer and I was super excited. I knew from our pre-session chats how longed for this baby was and our video call had provided a great opportunity to see the stunning terraced home that would make the perfect backdrop for this photoshoot. Natural tones, period features, oodles of spectacular foliage and quirky artwork; this was a slice of in-home photography heaven.
Together mama and I selected three outfits for her two hour session, choosing clothes that would make her feel amazing yet comfortable and would compliment the décor and style of her home. From a beautifully elegant oyster-white dress that oozed dreamy catwalk vibes to a fabulously sharp tailored suit, this mum-to-be had some serious style!
The day of the session was humid and warm. And as anyone who's experienced a summer pregnancy will know the struggle with heat is real. So, upon my arrival we flung open the windows and doors and embraced the first signs of summer by heading out into the courtyard garden. Although pregnancy photoshoots are predominantly about documenting you in your home, I am happy to include your outdoor space if the weather and light is on our side.
We decided to make the most of the natural light pouring in from the tri-fold doors and after a quick outfit change we made some beautifully relaxed and serene photographs of this glowing expectant mama and her bump. It was here in these quiet moments that mum seemed to forget I was there as she seemingly soaked up the calm, the joy, the moment. I could really feel the raw emotion and undoubted connection between mum and baby and while for the rest of the photoshoot we chatted away like we'd known each other for years, in this tender moment I simply observed and clicked. After all, it's not often during the whirlwind of pregnancy that we really get to stop and just be, is it?
