Document Your Nursing Journey at Home and Create Beautiful Keepsake Motherhood Portraits You Will Treasure Forever.

As a motherhood photographer when I receive a booking for a breastfeeding photoshoot I do a little jump for joy! In many ways these are my favourite in-home photography sessions. They are so relaxed, intimate and special and to be invited into a mother's home to document her nursing story is a real honour. But, why should you invest in photographs of your breastfeeding story? Read on to find out.

Featured Bristol mum Sinead asked me to document the closing chapter in her breastfeeding story. She knew this phase of feeding her baby solely with her breast milk was coming to an end and she wanted beautiful photographs to remember her wild and wonderful adventure. As a mum it can be a bitter-sweet time when you are nearing the end of nursing your child. For many of us it has been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride with beautifully lit highs and dark lonely lows. You give so much of yourself to nourishing your little one and that's it's a story worth telling. Whilst the bond you have created during your time as a breastfeeding mama will never be broken the memories of night-time snuggles and tiny fingers padding on your chest will fade pretty fast. Still not converted? Below you'll find my top six reasons for having a breastfeeding photoshoot.

my 6 top reasons why you should invest in a breastfeeding photoshoot.

1 - PRESERVE YOUR BREASTFEEDING MEMORIES

In the haze of each parenting phase it's all too easy to forget the way things were in any detail. These times are fleeting, aren't they? That is why documenting the love, joy and connection between you and your child with a time capsule of stunning breastfeeding portraits is a truly wonderful gift, both to you and your children. It is a gift that will be cherished forever and will keep you and your family dosed up on the all those warm fuzzy feelings of belonging and nostalgia for years to come. Whether you are looking to mark the end of this chapter in your motherhood story or you'd like to remember the way your baby fitted so perfectly in your arms, your favourite nursing nook and the way they twiddled your hair, a breastfeeding session will keep your nursing memories alive.

2 - DOCUMENT YOUR STORY AS IT IS, RIGHT NOW

This moment in your family timeline will never be the same again. Your home will evolve, your babies will grow into children, your children will flee the nest, the memories will become a blur but by booking an in-home nursing photoshoot you will create a time capsule of family life as it is, right in this moment. All the chaos, the cuddles and the connection. That in itself is priceless.

3 - BEAUTIFUL MOTHERHOOD PORTRAITS WITHOUT LEAVING YOUR HOME

My in-home photoshoots are calm, relaxed and candid motherhood sessions, completely led by the needs of you and your child. There is no stress of leaving the house, no cheesy grins and no awkward posing. In fact, imagine you are inviting an old friend over for a catch-up; we will chat, we will giggle and we will play around with the kids. Both you and your darling nursling will feel so much more comfortable and at ease in your own home and while you enjoy those tender feeding moments I will quietly click away capturing all the magic I see through my lens. You won't realise it but I will be documenting the very essence of your unique family tale.

4 - CAPTURE UNIQUE BOND YOU HAVE WITH YOUR LITTLE ONE

That indescribable attachment between a mother and her child is one I find hard to put into words. It's almost beyond words. But what I can always do is showcase the undeniable love, joy and connection and illustrate your special and unique bond through beautifully emotive, natural and authentic portraits that will take pride of place in your family home.

5 - CELEBRATE YOUR FEMININE POWER

This isn't a post about one way of nourishing your child being better than the other. It's about empowering and celebrating you, a breastfeeding champion and your story deserves to be told. For some mums breastfeeding comes easy and naturally. For others the struggle is very real and yet despite the pain, the judgement, the self-doubt and the set-backs they continue to try. Whether it was plain sailing or an uphill struggle all breastfeeding stories are worth telling. You so deserve this, mama.

6 - DONT MISS OUT LIKE I DID

You will never get this time again. It kind of pains me to say but even as a photographer I didn't invest in professionally documenting my breastfeeding journey. Sure I have the odd phone selfie and my partner did take a few nursing photos over the years but I feel a real sense of sadness that I don't have wall-worthy keepsake photographs. Please mama, hand the camera over to me and enjoy being in front of the lens for once. Invest in the story of your motherhood journey. You will never regret it.

“We had a beautiful experience being photographed by Debbie. She put us at ease right from the start and was very patient with outfit changes for the little guy. It was particularly important for me to capture the breastfeeding photos as our journey was coming to an end. I would highly recommend Debbie to anyone looking to beautifully and authentically capture a moment in time.”
